"This is old" is a full length that elaborates all this features. Not so original, but still cool and catchy, it deserves more than one chance.<br />

They play a retro-indie-pop that sounds like Cure or early U2 production. Songs show a gentle but nervous guitar and several electronic inserts that counteract the rhythm section. Singer recalls Pet Shop Boys soft tone, and gives to all the songs a pop touch.<br />

Starting from the rethorical poses of late 00s indie bands (like Interpol), they build emotional moods with the intense dialogues between the singer and the rhythmic section. Adding marimba and accordions helps in smoothing the atmosphere, and finally leads to a grim and meaningful result.<br />

Their music doesn't recall, anyway, the French touch.<br />
Le Galago is an indie-folk duo: singer's voice sometimes recalls Alice in Chains funereal prosody, especially when the guitars go steely and the gently strokes of the bruhses bring out angst and frustration. In several episodes catchy anthems remind U2 or Jeff Buckley moods, even if tainted with slight psychedelic noises and synths. This pretty long (40 minutes from 10 songs) work is a nice example of how well-chosen electronic effects and the right choice of atmospheres could transform a conventional (but not so bad) folk in a smart and pleasant product.<br />

This product is well recorded, the sound is very clean, and all the production sounds very professional. Dinner for One's music is similar first of all to the mood of Amorphis' "Elegy". The dark, folkish atmosphere is built, in Amity in Fame music, by a dark acoustic guitar and the impenetrable pact battery-bass. The male voice (sometimes completed by a female choir) is something between Tool's and Soundgarden's. The ethereal ann psychedelic touch in some moments recalls Porcupine Tree's darkest moments too.<br />Dinner for One is made by cryptic, martial songs and it enters the top chart of Jamendo's gothic-folk albums<br /><br /><div align="center"><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0" height="300" width="200" align="middle"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><param name="wmode" value="transparent"><param name="movie" value="http://widgets.jamendo.com/en/album/?album_id=28245&playertype=2008&refuid=249364"><param name="quality" value="high"><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF"><embed src="http://widgets.jamendo.com/en/album/?album_id=28245&playertype=2008&refuid=249364" quality="high" wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" allowscriptaccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" height="300" width="200" align="middle"></embed> </object></div>authorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15403863891617933630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1749499644790728319.post-78411391269618588372009-11-02T10:09:00.001-08:002009-11-02T10:11:01.509-08:00Blue Haired Girl - Uterus [Song of the day]We had already talked about Blue Haired Girl. IMHO it sounds like Smashing Pumpkins' most epic moments (like Thru the eyes of ruby) mixed in some passages with a sort of brit indie-rock (like late Smashing Pumpkins themselves, e.g. The Everlasting Gaze). Furthermore, given that My Bloody Valentine were one of the main inspirations for Corgan's band, some shoegaze echoes in the chorus could be heard.<br /></div>authorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15403863891617933630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1749499644790728319.post-60951750987876168242009-08-01T10:27:00.000-07:002009-08-01T10:30:32.739-07:00Zero - Les Suicides [Song of the day]Le Suicides is a song by Zero.<br /><br />It is a hard indie-rock power ballad.<br /><br /><br /><div align="center"><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0" align="middle" width="200" height="300"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><param name="wmode" value="transparent"><param name="movie" value="http://widgets.jamendo.com/en/track/?playertype=2008&refuid=249364&track_id=102676"><param name="quality" value="high"><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF"><embed src="http://widgets.jamendo.com/en/track/?playertype=2008&refuid=249364&track_id=102676" quality="high" wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" allowscriptaccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" align="middle" width="200" height="300"></embed> </object></div>authorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15403863891617933630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1749499644790728319.post-30794197861117481752009-08-01T03:23:00.000-07:002009-08-01T03:42:21.701-07:00A Sound Travesty - You Blew Me Away [Song of the day]You Blew Me Away is an atmospheric indie-rock ballad by A Sound Travesty<br /><br />sounds like: Strokes - Reptilia<br /><br /><div align="center"><object width="200" height="300" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0" align="middle"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value="http://widgets.jamendo.com/en/track/?playertype=2008&refuid=249364&track_id=311733" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><embed src="http://widgets.jamendo.com/en/track/?playertype=2008&refuid=249364&track_id=311733" quality="high" wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" width="200" height="300" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"> </embed> </object></div>authorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15403863891617933630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1749499644790728319.post-14342555456438080522009-07-31T10:44:00.000-07:002009-07-31T10:46:40.606-07:00Urban Castle Magic - Laconic Song [Song of the day]Laconic Song is a post-grunge song by Urban Castle Magic.<br /><br /><div align="center"><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0" align="middle" width="200" height="300"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><param name="wmode" value="transparent"><param name="movie" value="http://widgets.jamendo.com/en/track/?playertype=2008&refuid=249364&track_id=15001"><param name="quality" value="high"><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF"><embed src="http://widgets.jamendo.com/en/track/?playertype=2008&refuid=249364&track_id=15001" quality="high" wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" allowscriptaccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" align="middle" width="200" height="300"></embed> </object></div>authorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15403863891617933630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1749499644790728319.post-44819456978010195092009-07-31T10:23:00.000-07:002009-07-31T10:28:21.695-07:00Pornophonique - 8-bit lagerfeuer [Suggestions]Pornophonique are a german band that published 2 albums on Jamendo.
